The CCHK's inaugural Forte/Piano Summer Academy will take place next week, from July 31–August 7, on Cornell's Ithaca campus. A description and full schedule of events can be accessed on our companion website. All events are free and open to the public.
Highlights of the week include evening recitals by artist-faculty Tuija Hakkila (Sibelius Academy), Roberto Poli (New England Conservatory), and the Center's artist-scholar in residence, Mike Lee, and three further recitals given by twelve exciting young artists selected from an international pool of applicants. Other events include daily masterclasses, led in part by Malcolm Bilson, lectures with David Breitman, Nathan Mondry, Charles Metz, and Roberto Poli on improvisation, Chopin, Clementi, and other topics in historical performance––all taking inspiration from Cornell’s renowned collection of historical pianos.
Immediately prior to the Academy, we will also host the Forte/Piano Tech Academy from July 30–31. Led by restorer-technicians Ken Eschete and Ken Walkup, this pioneering event helps modern technicians gain specialized skills in the areas of historical piano conservation and restoration.
