A Seventeenth-Century Organist's Psalter

The Psalms of David were a rich source of music inspiration for the Protestant denominations across seventeenth-century Europe. Join us in Anabel Taylor Chapel for an evening concert of chorale variations, fantasias and intabulations from northern climes on the Cornell Baroque organ at 8pm, April 10th. Jakob Praetorius' grand, imposing cycle on the german paraphrase of Psalm 23 (Was kann uns kommen...) sits alongside Michael Praetorius' dancing variations on Psalm 103 (Nun lob, mein Seel, den Herren), among others. 2019 marks the 400th birthday of Anthoni van Noordt, a celebrated organist and composer working in Amsterdam; his 1659 collection of fantasias and psalms provided the initial inspiration for this recital, given by music graduate student Anna Steppler. Warm welcome! Free and open to the public.
